Executive Order Re: Implementation of AB 199

Pursuant to Assembly Bill 199 and the newly amended Penal Code sections 977 and
1043.5 and Government Code section 71651.1 and the added Penal Code section 977.3
which become operative on July 1, 2022, remote appearances are now authorized in criminal
proceedings as set forth in AB 199. Until such time as the Judicial Council of California
develops procedures and forms for remote appearances in misdemeanor and felony cases, the
procedure for appearing remotely in misdemeanor and felony proceedings as allowed by law,
is as follows:

1. Requests for remote appearance shall be submitted online using the procedure on our
website at imperial.courts.ca.gov under "Remote Appearances".

2. Requests must be submitted no later than three (3) court days prior to the hearing at
which remote appearance is requested.

3. Parties that do not receive a written response to their request must appear in person.
